Bollywood actor Govinda’s recent return to politics, joining Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, marks a notable shift from his earlier sentiments and experiences in the political arena. Fourteen years ago, Govinda publicly expressed regret over his foray into politics, labeling it a “big mistake.” However, his decision to re-enter the political landscape unveils a new perspective and inspiration, attributed to the clean image and development initiatives of Shiv Sena, particularly under CM Shinde’s leadership.

In a recent statement, Govinda cited the “clean aura” of Shiv Sena’s Shinde faction as a key factor motivating his return to politics. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development policies, expressing a desire to contribute to the state’s beautification and foster growth in art and culture, if given the opportunity.

Drawing a parallel between his political hiatus and Ramayana’s ‘vanvaas’, Govinda highlighted his previous stint in politics from 2004 to 2009 and acknowledged the coincidence of returning after 14 years. Commending CM Shinde’s developmental strides in Maharashtra, Govinda emphasized the rapid progress witnessed under his administration, akin to the national-level advancements.

CM Shinde echoed Govinda’s sentiments, emphasizing his government’s pro-development and pro-people agenda, which resonated with the veteran actor. However, Govinda clarified that his return to politics wasn’t driven by a quest for an election ticket but rather a genuine intent to contribute positively, especially within the film industry.

Reflecting on his past departure from Congress, Govinda revealed the challenges and opposition he faced within the party, which influenced his decision to step back from active political engagement. Despite initial reservations and regrets expressed in 2012 and 2013 about joining politics, Govinda’s renewed inspiration stems from the conducive environment and development-oriented approach of Shiv Sena-BJP, underlining his commitment to constructive contributions in the public domain.

Govinda’s political journey showcases a nuanced evolution, highlighting the dynamic interplay of personal experiences, political landscapes, and evolving aspirations, ultimately shaping his decision to embrace a renewed role in Maharashtra’s political landscape.
